Welcome to Hudson Valley Home Matters

Many of us want to enjoy an active, healthy life without moving away from our neighborhoods. We cherish living near old friends and among young neighbors. We want to continue patronizing favorite shops and restaurants, and appreciate easy access to New York City via the Poughkeepsie railroad station. In addition, our immediate area offers a wealth of cultural activities on three local campuses, as well as concerts, theater and art exhibits at other venues.

The mission of Hudson Valley Home Matters is to support seniors who want to remain independent and happy in their own homes as they age.  HVHM serves the greater Poughkeepsie area, Hyde Park, LaGrange, Wappinger Falls and Pleasant Valley and is open to those 50 and over.  We are an organization dedicated to providing seniors and their adult children and families, peace of mind that comes with knowing that someone is there to help.

Check out this excellent video from Arizona University Health Science Center on the new CPR method. There's a NEW CPR technique that uses chest compression with the hands, not the old-fashioned mouth-to-mouth breathing.  This is a simple method that anyone can do and doesn't require training or certification, and Good Samaritan laws protect those who use the technique in an emergency.  Click on this link to watch the video:  Sarver Heart CPR Technique

Did you know? Between 2006 and 2030, the U.S. population of adults aged 65 and over will nearly double from 37 million to 71.5 million!

Most Americans prefer to stay in their own homes as they get older rather than moving to an assisted living facility or retirement community.  Does this sound like you?  If so, then you know that by remaining in your own home, you can:

  • Maintain your connections to family, friends and neighbors in your community
  • Sustain relationships with trusted business and service providers
  • Continue to enrich our area through participation in a wide range of volunteer and other activities

What is Hudson Valley Home Matters?    A non-profit and aging-in-place organization that was formed in 2009 by area residents who themselves wanted to stay in their own homes.

What is Aging in Place? Aging in Place is a national movement that is growing fast in cities across the nation.  Neighborhood residents across the country have banded together to create “aging-in-place villages” to help seniors keep control of their lives in their own homes.
